OUR TOWN
Shire of Wentworth is made up of several smaller towns. Wentworth, Dareton, Buronga and Gol, with most of these towns being within 20 minutes of Mildura in Victoria.
Our facility is situated in the town of Dareton a town in the far west of New South Wales, Australia. The town is located on the Silver City Highway, 1,025 kilometres west of the state capital, Sydney and 20 kilometres from the regional centre, Mildura, across the border in Victoria.
Located on the Murray River, the town is at the heart of the Coomealla Irrigation Area. Dareton was once home to an Aboriginal mission; this is now a residential area for Aboriginal people.
Dareton had its genesis in 1922 with the recommendation to establish irrigation in the area. Pioneering settlers moved to the district soon after, but it was not until after World War II and the establishment of soldier settler farms that Dareton began to prosper.
Dareton is named for the then Water Conservation and Irrigation Commissioner Henry Dare, who was a strong advocate for the irrigation scheme.
Dareton today is a producer of grapes and dried fruit. It boasts a championship golf course and is a popular location for fishing and camping.
A major local entity is the Coomealla Memorial Sporting Club. It operates a large social facility, plus various sporting facilities.

The Dareton Primary Health Care Service is part of the Far West Local Health District.
Primary Health Care Service
The Dareton Primary Health Care Service is situated at 44-46 Tapio Street and covers the Wentworth & Balranald LGA’s and provides a hub for a diverse range of service for the whole community.
Services such as the Aboriginal Health Workers, who promote a primary health approach to address aboriginal health needs with a focus on prevention, early detection and care. They provide a number of health promotion activities and education sessions to professionals and the community.
Also available are Primary Health Nurses, Palliative Care Team, Diabetes Educator, Women’s Health/Continence Nurse, Aged Care Team, Child & Family Health Team, Community Midwife, Social Worker, Adult & Children’s Dental, Early Intervention Educator and Mental Health Drug & Alcohol services.
Dareton Primary Health Care Service employs 33 local staff members to support the community.
Visiting Services to Dareton includes Obstetrician & Gynaecologist Registrar, and Psychiatrist.
